Commonwealth Games Handover
Rosie Kay devised a routine for between 600 brightly-dressed dancers, singers and musicians in Birmingham’s Victoria Square as the city welcomed taking on the 2022 Commonwealth Games. The piece was performed to Birmingham formed ELO’s Mr. Blue Sky and guest performers included Birmingham Royal Ballet dancers.
It was performed live during the 2018 Games’ closing ceremony on Australia’s Gold Coast on Sunday 15th of April 2018 and was filmed in one take by a roving camera, following dancers as they moved round the city’s Victoria Square. The was the longest ever, live worldwide outside broadcast, single camera, single shot lasting 6 minutes.
