Hello [subscriber:firstname | default:]

What a year 2017 has been!

We've premiered two new works, toured three shows, live-streamed to the world and become an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation. Thank you to everyone who has joined and supported us on this journey.

To top it all we received two nominations for the 2017 Critic's Circle National Dance Awards:
  • Best Independent Company
  • Outstanding female solo performance (modern) for Shelley Eva Haden in MK ULTRA

Rosie Kay, Artistic Director
Shelley Eva Haden in MK ULTRA
"In these post-truth days, conspiracy theories abound. Choreographer Rosie Kay and film-maker Adam Curtis spotlit some of these in their hallucinatory MK Ultra, a danced decryption of the fantastical threads running through popular culture."
Luke Jennings, Best Dance of 2017

Our new outdoor/urban work MODERN WARRIOR premiered on 23 September as part of Birmingham Weekender. Inspired by vintage martial arts films the show takes two tribes, the TRADS (traditionalists) and the MODS (modernists), and pitches them against each other. The six professional dancers were joined by volunteer MODS and TRADS from the crowds in Birmingham New Street Station.

Watch out for MODERN WARRIOR at Birmingham's Chinese New Year celebrations in February and at International Dance Festival Birmingham 2018.

Fantasia R&D

Studio sharing, DanceXchange, Birmingham, Fri 23 Mar, 15:00

I'm currently researching and developing a new work titled 'Fantasia' using cutting-edge neurological research on the effects of music and dance on the brain, to provoke sensations and pleasure in audience’s brains. This is going to be a piece of pure, beautiful dance!

I did some early explorations recently at Dance City, Newcastle and I'll also be looking at ideas with the West Midlands Centre for Advanced Dance Training. In March I'll be visiting the Center for Music in the Brain at Aarhaus University, Denmark to present and research. After that I'll have a week in the studio with three dancers - please join us for the sharing on 23 March.

Birmingham REP, 15-23 June 2018

I'm delighted to be part of the recently announced 2018 season at Birmingham REP as Choreographer and Associate Director on a new version of Woyzeck. It is so exciting to work with Director Roxanna Silbert, writer Leo Butler and designer Neil Murray....oh and a community chorus of 100 people from the West Midlands!
