Dear [subscriber:firstname | default:reader],

Its been a busy start to the year with outreach work going on across the West Midlands reaching more than 200 young people. Groups have had bespoke curtain raisers created by Shanelle Clemenson and myself and Harriet was out teaching eight 5 SOLDIERS taster classes in schools and colleges.

We are now in the studio, rehearsing 5 SOLDIERS, making a few changes here and there, keeping it up to date and fresh. We are so exited to be bringing the show back to life, now in its 10th anniversary year. Who would have though that a show about the army would have reached into the hearts of so many people and still be relevant today.

We are also looking for a new board member - a chance to see behind the scenes and share in our long term planning and strategy. If you love the work, we want to hear from you!

Please do catch us on tour in the UK as we prepare for our second US tour, or drop us a line about board recruitment.

With best wishes,
Rosie Kay
Artistic Director
Welcome to the new cast of 5 SOLDIERS - this is our 10th anniversary tour and we're delighted to welcome back Harriet Ellis (recruited in 2017) and Alan Hunte (recruited in 2019). Transferring units from the 10 SOLDIERS squadron into 5 SOLDIERS are Jonathan Mewett and Olly Bell who are joined by new recruit Frankie Hickman.

Frankie went for full immersion training last week at the Infantry Training Centre Catterick in North Yorkshire to shadow and work alongside training soldiers as part of his research for the role.

5 SOLDIERS engagement activity

The company were delighted to work with pupils and students from the Walsall area to create two new curtain raiser pieces and to deliver eight taster workshops on the themes of 5 SOLDIERS.

The curtain raiser pieces will be performed before 5 SOLDIERS at Walsall Arena on Fri 7 Feb, tickets have now sold out.

"I just wanted to email and say how fantastic Harriet was yesterday at Colton Hills in our 5 Soldiers Workshop. Students were really engaged, committed, put through their paces and all had fantastic feedback after the workshop that they would love something like this to happen again for them."
Teacher, Colton Hills School

Thanks to Black Country Dance for organising these activities and thanks to funding from National Lottery Project Grants.

CALLOUT: Board Member

Rosie Kay Dance Company seek a new member to join the voluntary board of directors who are responsible for the governance, compliance and strategic management of the organisation. Find out about our current board members here: https://rosiekay.co.uk/the-board/

First and foremost we're looking for someone who has seen the work and loves what we produce. We're particularly keen to hear from someone with financial management skills, preferably in an arts environment and this does not necessarily need to be a formal qualification.

The board meets four times a year in central Birmingham on weekday afternoons as well as attending events and performances throughout the year.

To discuss the role further please contact James Preston, Executive Director with details of your interest and skills: james@rosiekay.co.uk

Welcome Carlos Acosta

Rosie and James attended a dinner organised by Culture Central to welcome Carlos Acosta to his new role as Artistic Director of Birmingham Royal Ballet. It was wonderful to spend time with Birmingham's vibrant dance community at such an exciting time.
