Dear [subscriber:firstname | default:reader],

Welcome to April – we hope that you and your loved ones are safe and well.
This month we bring you some digital art for you to watch and listen to in difficult times whilst theatres are closed.
  • For a limited time, we’re releasing a full-length video of MK ULTRA filmed at the Southbank Centre in November 2018.
  • We’re also releasing the fifth episode of the Future-Proof Artist podcast series featuring RKDC’s resident dramaturg Ben Payne.
  • Coming soon but not quite out of the oven yet will be a 360 degree virtual reality version of 5 SOLDIERS available on livr.co.uk – you’ll be able to take the front row seat and get up close with the 2020 cast of the show.
  • I've also included a roundup of my favourite online culture, classes and performances
We’re gutted at the news that the Edinburgh Festival won’t be going ahead this year. We were so looking forward to presenting Rosie Kay’s Fantasia at Summerhall for the whole month but public safety is the number one priority right now so it can’t happen. We’re looking at how we might bring Fantasia to you in other ways so bear with us as we come up with a plan.

We’d like to thank Arts Council England for their decisive leadership in this time of crisis for so many artists and those working in the creative industries. Read their guidance in full here: https://www.artscouncil.org.uk/covid19 The support they offer is truly incredible and enables us to honour the contracts we already had in place for artists and freelancers who have otherwise lost the vast majority of their livelihoods.

Do please support dance artists when and how you can, by paying for online content, donating to companies such as ours or leaving some public appreciation for the art you’re enjoying at home right now.

Take care,
Rosie Kay

The Future-Proof Artist - new episode

The latest episode of our arts talk show bringing together interesting, successful and diverse figures from the arts and sciences to talk about success, failure, resilience, barriers and how to succeed.

The series questions what it takes to achieve success, if failure is essential to it and we become resilient? Each episode explores the new challenges to the 21st Century artist and if we are prepared to face them? This podcast is designed for dance and culture professionals and students to view future-proofing through the lens of dance.

Episode 5 features Rosie Kay in conversation with dramaturg Ben Payne talking about their working relationship, the role of a dramaturg in dance and the beginnings of Rosie's new production of Romeo & Juliet.

available to watch for free online for a limited time

MK ULTRA originally premiered in 2017 and toured UK theatres in 2017 and 2018. MK ULTRA explores the rise of a strange, dark myth of our time. How, as millions of young people turn away from the established political systems, they are embracing bizarre conspiracies that they see hidden like a secret code in the culture and music that surrounds them. MK ULTRA mixes creator and choreographer Rosie Kay’s thoroughly researched exploration of the rise of the Illuminati conspiracy in modern culture with filmmaker Adam Curtis’ documentary elements to create a new kind of dance work.

Join a pop brainwashing experiment that will blow your mind

Be dazzled by bright lights, superhuman dancing and pounding music. Relax in the reassuring glamour of beautiful bodies and the glittering lifestyles of music videos.
But what dark, ugly secrets lie behind the mask for the generations of young mainstream pop stars – and those who watch them?
