Rosie Kay talks dance in the BBC Breakfast studio

Tune into BBC One Breakfast morning television on Monday 28 January for a live studio interview with Rosie Kay alongside 5 SOLDIERS dancer Trooper Alex Smith. Alex (22 years old) is a new member of the cast, joining us from the the Welsh Cavalry, 1st The Queen’s Dragoon Guards for the upcoming tour of 5 SOLDIERS. He trained at Northern Ballet before joining the Army two years ago, and after seeing the livestream of 2017’s London show, he successfully auditioned for the role. Informed by intense field research, the show has always been praised for its authenticity, however, this time we’re pushing it one step further by having a real soldier join us on stage.

World premiere in Birmingham

Last year we were thrilled to become an Associate Company at Birmingham Hippodrome. Their support (along with funding from ACE and research & development commissioned by The Movement) has enabled us to create a large-scale work, 10 SOLDIERS, this being the first Rosie Kay Dance Company piece to be programmed for the main stage. This will be night to remember so book your place early to see bold contemporary dance in one of the city’s biggest and most impressive theatres.

WORLD PREMIERE, Tuesday 21 May at Birmingham Hippodrome.

Following performances of 10 SOLDIERS:
30 May, Edinburgh Festival Theatre
4 June, Norwich Theatre Royal
future proof podcast

A podcast series for dance lovers and arts professionals

We are two episodes in to our new podcast series, The Future-Proof Artist. So far, we have featured Mars El Brogy (journalist and producer for BBC Three, BBC Entertainment Development and BBC Worldwide) and Harry Parker (UCL History of Art graduate, painter and author of Anatomy of a Soldier).

If you have an idea for a conversation topic or guest interviewee with an area expertise to share, let us know. The Future-Proof Artist is for strengthening the dance and culture sectors with ideas on how to build resilience, navigate tough times, create spellbinding new work and achieve your best.

Presented and produced by Simon Preston.
